Humanity has cleared an estimated 3 TRILLION trees and cultivated around HALF of its fertile lands. Populations of wild animals have been decimated—we’ve lost 60% in the LAST 50 YEARS.
Frankly, there is very little wild left. BIODIVERSITY LOSS is one of the biggest threats we face as humanity. Without our wild places, our planet loses its natural ability to cleanse and heal from the damage we’ve caused.
There are 3 MAJOR CHALLENGES that we see going forward:
Here are the 5 WAYS WE CAN MAKE THE BIGGEST IMPACT:
1. Phase out fossil fuels and replace them with true renewable energy sources. This will slow the warming of the planet, reduce the acidification of the oceans, and give our children cleaner air to breathe.
2. Upgrade to efficient food production. We can do this by eating less meat as a species. Meat requires far more land to produce than do crops. By doing this we can increase our grasslands, reduce deforestation (many forests are clear cut for animal agriculture), and feed more people with less impact.
3. Hold onto the wild populations that still remain. We have to fight tooth and nail to stop the depopulation of our wilds. Let’s draw a line in the sand right here.
4. Expand our wild places! Plant more trees. Learn to live and thrive with nature instead of against it.
5. Support causes and companies who are trying to make an impact (that’s us!). Money makes the world go ‘round. If we put our money where our mouth is, mobilize our dollars and put them to work saving the planet, we can change the world for the better.
